Moms Ask Gift-givers For Toys that Foster Imagination, Unplug the Playroom


A recent survey of more than 500 mothers with children between the ages of five and ten found that the majority (66%) plan to give construction and creative toys this holiday season. “Moms recognize the power of play, particularly when it comes to toys they believe foster their children’s imagination,” commented the survey’s director, Marta Loeb, of Silver Stork Research. The survey found that those parents believe that a healthy imagination is vital for their children to become adept learners, with 74% saying the more children use their imagination the better they will do in school; 75% of the survey’s participants also believe that playtime is as important as school time for developing learning capacities.

14-year old LEGO pro wins building challenge

Nathaniel Macmillan, 14, from Novato, California, built his way to the championship title and a $5,000 Grand Prize scholarship November 12 in the "LEGO Brick to the Future: 2055" Building Challenge. Additionally, he received two complete collections of 2005 LEGO products – one to keep, and one to serve as a holiday donation to a children's charity in his community.

LEGO.com launches area just for Parents!

LEGO.com welcomes parents to this new section of the website. The LEGO parent's site brings together the worldwide LEGO community by helping parents share information with LEGO and each other. The new site includes feature stories, age-specific info on child-development, message boards, play ideas for growing children’s imaginations and curiosity, results from the LEGO Learning Institute’s research efforts and more. We invite you to have a look and let us know what you think!

LEGO Education Centers come to North America

LEGO Education Centers offer educational enrichment programs in science, math and technology for children ages 3 through 16. Over 150 centers are open worldwide, but the program has yet to take root in North America. That is about to change.

The third BIONICLE film, “Web of Shadows,” recently spun its way into video stores worldwide. Children who have been lucky enough to test-view the film’s plot and enhanced animation generally regard it as the best BIONICLE movie to date.
