Insider’s View of a LEGO Inside Tour!

Have you ever wanted to take your family on a behind the scenes tour of the LEGO headquarters? Wondered exactly what other kinds of families might be on the LEGO Inside Tour?

Meet Paula, a librarian from Pittsburgh who made the trip over to Billund this past summer with her son Sean (Age 12). Like so many die-hard fans, playing with LEGO bricks is nothing new for Paula. In fact, it runs in her family! She and her brother played with LEGO sets as children and now she’s helping the next generation delve even deeper into the LEGO building experience. The Parents website team asked Paula a few questions about her thoughts on creativity and imagination, how she nurtures those qualities in her own children, and what made the Inside Tour so memorable.

In terms of child development, what skills or abilities do you try to stimulate?
Creativity and imagination! It’s so important to nurture these two qualities in children.
How do you do it?
I am a strong believer in reading out loud and I fill our house with books. As a librarian, I see the library card as a key to opening a world of possibilities. I also see the LEGO brick as another key in opening up a world of creativity and imagination for my children.

What are some of the challenges and opportunities you think the future may hold for children these days?
Our children live in an electronic world where very little is hands-on creating.

How has LEGO influenced your children at various stages in their lives?
Sean has always played with LEGO bricks, creating his own visions and building sets. In school, LEGO Robotics are part of his curriculum, which makes Thursday an especially good day at school.

What made the LEGO Inside Tour so memorable for you?
The building competition was the best part. We had access to a huge amount of bricks. LEGO designers judged the competition. It was fascinating to see everyone’s creations. The designers were a big hit with both the adults and children. Having a Jorgen Vig Knudstorp minifig is pretty special too. We even have a LEGO model with the Tour Group’s picture on the box.

Give us your five best tips for families considering the LEGO Inside Tour …
1. Plan your trip early and enjoy other parts of Denmark. It’s a wonderful country.
2. Get there earlier than the tour to avoid Jet Lag.
3. Stay longer than the tour to get the full LEGOLAND experience.
4. Take lots of pictures of your trip to bring home to your friends.
5. Have plenty of room in your luggage to bring back all the LEGO products!
