LEGO Group adopts two primary school classes

In summer 2007 the LEGO Group took under its wing a complete school year (two classes) at the Vejle school, about 30 km from the LEGO Group headquarters in Denmark. The Group will follow the children right from their first day of school up to 9th Grade. Each year the company will organise a series of events, inviting the children to visit the Billund plant and take part in various activities.

Inspiration to other companies

The LEGO Group has had a close association with a number of schools for several years – but the idea of adopting a whole class (two classes!) of children is a new one. To Aksel Krabbe Nielsen, the Visitor Manager at Corporate Governance, it’s obvious that the children enjoy visiting the Billund factory and seeing how LEGO bricks are made. But the company, too, benefits from contact with the children.

“Youngsters are fantastic, and they’re at the very heart of our company. It’s a great experience for our employees who voluntarily commit to the children and the project. They’ve volunteered to take part because they think it’s fun working with children,” says Aksel Krabbe, who hopes the project can inspire other companies to pick up the idea.
