LEGO® BRICK DRIVE for New Orleans comes to a close

LEGO® BRICK DRIVE for New Orleans comes to a close

The LEGO® brick drive for New Orleans children was a massive success! We want to sincerely thank the thousands of children, families, classrooms and others who generously sent in their own LEGO bricks for children who have been affected by Hurricane Katrina, along with their creative ideas for the future of a re-built New Orleans.

Due to the overwhelming support, we collected even more LEGO bricks than we could have imagined! We are in the process of tallying the total number and will be matching every donated brick with a new LEGO brick. Everything will be delivered to the teachers and students in New Orleans schools, whose classrooms are badly in need of creative supplies, in November, just in time for the holidays, as a gift from their peers across the country. Along with the bricks, LEGO Systems will install a large, one-of-a-kind LEGO structure depicting the future of New Orleans, inspired by the ideas received from kids across the country, to be permanently displayed in the Children’s section of the New Orleans Public Library.

Image of false LEGO box circulated via email

An image of a false LEGO box is currently being circulated across the world via e mail. The picture of the box is computer manipulated and in the picture LEGO elements are used to depict the Prophet Mohammed in a situation of a sexual nature – with a severely offensive text.

The LEGO Group wants to stress that there is no such LEGO product, and that the company totally condemns the picture and the manner in which someone has made use of the LEGO products and brand.

The LEGO Group does not know the original source of the image which back in spring appeared on some European websites. Possibilities of stopping this use of LEGO products and brands are being investigated, and the LEGO Group is collaborating with the Danish police in the matter.

The LEGO Group has released a statement which can be downloaded from this site by clicking here.

Experts and celebrities look to the builders of tomorrow

For actor and Broadway performer Matthew Broderick, “it happens when you’re thinking about something else…you just have to have openness.” Clothing entrepreneur Eileen Fisher says it’s “about giving people permission to step out of the busy-ness.” “It” is creativity, a quality that, in Broderick’s and Fisher’s view, is at serious risk among today’s over-scheduled, academically-pressured, multi-tasking generation of kids.
